Tinnitus Book Show: New Scandinavian Textbook on Tinnitus, Hyperacusis and Misophonia

As part of the Tinnitus Book Show initiative linked to the 4th World Tinnitus Congress and XV International Tinnitus Seminar (London, 30 June to 2 July 2027), we are pleased to highlight a newly published Scandinavian textbook:

Tinnitus, hyperakusis og misofoni

Written in Danish and intended for Scandinavian readers, this new publication provides an accessible and practice-oriented introduction to tinnitus, hyperacusis, and misophonia. The book has been developed particularly for professionals and students in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway who work with individuals affected by these conditions.

Tinnitus, hyperacusis, and misophonia can have a substantial impact on everyday life, particularly in more severe forms. Individuals may experience sleep disturbances, concentration difficulties, stress-related symptoms, reduced participation in social life, and challenges affecting education and employment. The book also addresses how these conditions affect children and adolescents, highlighting age-specific considerations in assessment and support.

The text combines clinical experience with practical guidance and aims to strengthen a shared understanding across professional disciplines. Particular emphasis is placed on improving collaboration and supporting coordinated approaches to assessment, counselling, and treatment.

The book is organised into two main sections:

Part I

  • Definitions and descriptions of tinnitus, hyperacusis, and misophonia
  • Prevalence and possible causes
  • Effects on everyday functioning and quality of life

Part II

  • Assessment approaches
  • Communication and counselling strategies
  • Treatment options
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration and continuity of care

A central aim of the textbook is to help professionals understand not only their own role, but also the broader care pathway, enabling safer and more coordinated support for individuals living with sound intolerance conditions.

The book may be of particular interest to:

  • Audiology students
  • Audiologists
  • Speech and language therapists
  • Educational audiologists
  • Audiometrists
  • Professionals working with individuals experiencing sound sensitivity
  • Individuals living with these conditions and their families
