TINNEXUS 2027: Connecting Science, Technology and Clinical Practice in Tinnitus

A new interdisciplinary tinnitus conference, TINNEXUS 2027 – Using Science and Translational Technology to Advance Our Understanding of Tinnitus and Improve Clinical Practice, will take place on Saturday, 13 March 2027, at the University at Buffalo, New York, USA.

TINNEXUS 2027 is jointly organised by the Department of Communicative Disorders and Sciences at the University at Buffalo, the Center for Translational AI and Digital Health at the University at Buffalo, and the Hashir International Institute, UK.

The conference will bring together tinnitus researchers and clinicians with scientists, engineers and experts from related disciplines. Its purpose is to explore how emerging scientific knowledge and translational technologies can deepen our understanding of tinnitus and contribute to better assessment, management and treatment.

The programme will examine advances in auditory science, genetics, neuropsychiatry, pharmacology and other relevant fields. It will also consider how artificial intelligence, engineering, physiological sensing, objective measurement, imaging and computational approaches may create new possibilities for tinnitus research and clinical care.

A central principle of TINNEXUS is that progress depends on meaningful connections between frontier research and everyday clinical practice. The conference will therefore combine scientific and technological perspectives with practical knowledge that audiologists, otologists and other healthcare professionals can apply in tinnitus assessment, differential diagnosis, patient education, counselling and management.

Advances in basic and translational science are essential to the future of tinnitus care. A deeper understanding of auditory and non-auditory mechanisms, genetics, neural systems, perception and pharmacology can strengthen clinical reasoning and enable professionals to discuss tinnitus and emerging scientific developments with their patients more confidently.

At the same time, clinicians bring essential knowledge about patients’ experiences, priorities and unmet needs. TINNEXUS will create a forum in which researchers, technology specialists and healthcare professionals can learn from one another, develop new collaborations and identify promising directions for future investigation.

By bringing expertise from within and beyond the traditional tinnitus field into the same conversation, TINNEXUS aims to accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries and emerging technologies into improved clinical approaches and future treatments.

The conference is open to audiologists, otologists, researchers, engineers, technology specialists and other healthcare professionals involved in tinnitus research and care. Presentations will be delivered by invited experts joining both in person and virtually.

TINNEXUS 2027 is led by:

  • Professor Wei Sun, Department of Communicative Disorders and Sciences, University at Buffalo
  • Professor Wenyao Xu, Carl V. Granger Endowed Chair Professor and Director of Research, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University at Buffalo
  • Dr Hashir Aazh, Director of the Hashir International Institute, London, United Kingdom

Further information about the programme and participation will be announced in due course.
