Open Call: International Consensus on Core Competencies, Training Standards, and Service Delivery in Tinnitus Care

Open Call: International Consensus on Core Competencies, Training Standards, and Service Delivery in Tinnitus Care

As part of the 4th World Tinnitus Congress (London, 30 June – 2 July 2027), we are launching a global consensus initiative to define the minimum professional standards for tinnitus care.

This initiative will produce a single, multi-authored consensus paper setting out:

  1. Core Competencies – What all clinicians delivering tinnitus care should know and be able to do
  2. Training Standards – How these competencies should be taught and assessed
  3. Minimum Service Delivery Model – What basic tinnitus services should offer and how care should be structured

🌍 A Universal Framework – Not Conditioned on Resources

This project aims to define a baseline standard that can be applied in any health system worldwide — regardless of national guidelines, local resources, or professional roles.

It will focus exclusively on the foundations of safe, person-centred tinnitus care.
Advanced or specialist interventions — such as specific forms of talking therapies, sound-based methods, or bimodal stimulation — are outside the scope, as they require additional specialised training.

📘 What the Consensus Will Offer

  • A practical tool for clinical educators, service planners, and policymakers
  • A globally relevant foundation for workforce development
  • A reference standard to support service improvement and access equity

🧩 Paper Structure

  • Part I – Core Competencies (assessment, education, triage, basic management)
  • Part II – Training Standards (minimum training content, assessment, supervision)
  • Part III – Minimum Service Delivery Model (essential components of tinnitus services)

🌐 Who Should Contribute

We welcome input from:

  • Audiologists, psychologists, ENT and hearing professionals
  • University departments and CPD providers
  • Researchers and educators
  • Health commissioners and policy advisors
  • Professional bodies and registration authorities
  • Patient advocates and support organisations

📆 Timeline

  • Writing group formation: Dec 2025 – Jan 2026
  • Drafting and consultation: Feb – Jun 2026
  • Launch: WTC London – 30 June to 2 July 2027
