Special Issue in Audiology Research on Translational Audiology for Tinnitus, Hyperacusis and Misophonia

Researchers and clinicians are invited to contribute to a Special Issue titled Translational Audiology for Tinnitus, Hyperacusis and Misophonia in the journal Audiology Research.

This Special Issue focuses on bridging the gap between scientific understanding and clinical practice in the assessment and management of tinnitus and sound intolerance. Tinnitus, hyperacusis, and misophonia often present overlapping clinical challenges that require coordinated audiological, medical, and psychological expertise. While advances in auditory neuroscience and clinical research have improved understanding of these conditions, translating this knowledge into coherent and accessible care pathways remains a key challenge.

The Special Issue is aligned with the scientific themes of the 8th International Conference on Hyperacusis and Misophonia (ICHM8) and the 4th World Tinnitus Congress and XV International Tinnitus Seminar (WTC/ITS). These meetings are expected to stimulate new interdisciplinary collaborations, and the Special Issue provides a publication pathway for mature, peer-review-ready manuscripts emerging from this work.

Submissions are invited in the form of original research articles and review papers addressing translational and clinically relevant aspects of tinnitus and sound intolerance care. Topics may include audiologist-delivered cognitive behavioural therapy, counselling and rehabilitation frameworks, sound-based and exposure-informed interventions, digital and mHealth approaches, multidisciplinary service models, and studies examining medical and surgical dimensions that inform diagnostic reasoning and integrated care pathways.

Particular emphasis is placed on pragmatic trials, implementation studies, mixed-methods research, and real-world clinical evidence that can improve access, safety, and outcomes across healthcare settings.
